Planetary Atmospheres
Each planet in our solar system is surrounded by a thin layer of gas and dust. On Earth, the
atmosphere is an essential component of our ecosystem, protecting the surface from harmful radiation,
transporting energy from the equator to the poles, dispersing and destroying harmful pollutants and
providing a source of oxygen and water.
Thoth Technology develops tools for the simulation of planetary atmospheres including
Earth, Mars and Venus. Our models find wide application in remote sensing, space exploration and
air-quality control.
As an illustration, the figure below describes the predicted transmission for
the Earth's atmosphere assuming standard, North mid-latitude conditions from 5 km altitude to the
ground. This region includes two of Earth's principal atmospheric "windows," which
are separated by a strong ozone- absorption feature at 1000-1100cm-1 (around 1 µm).
